  • Can't place image infront of Video object

    Hi,

Any ideas on this, if its a bug?

I have an image that covers the entire project window with some transparent windows, and I want to place a video object behind the image to give the feeling that the room is moving when you look through the windows.

But no matter what I do, AMS 8 wont let me place the video object behind the image.

Any one have a work around to this?

    Cheers,
    Jonas

Masking will do this for you.

Do you have AMS7.5? If so have a look at the video player template. If not I'll upload an apz for you if someone else doesn't do so before me.

I'll have a look at that one, but still dont like the fact that it won't let me place the object behind the image

        forgot.....

Also I think you misunderstod me Iongedge.

The videoplayer template in ams 7, the video object is not hidden behind anything, the app is formed around it as a custom mask.

The Mask option is not one that is usable, I'll try to explain it in more clear terms:

I have an app where I have a picture (of a living room with windows on the back wall in the picture), I have cut out the window panes (the glass) in the windows, and want to place a video object behind the picture so that you can play a video with can bee seen through the windows, so that it can bee snowing in the winter and the sun can shine in the summer or it can be raining or there can be a formula 1 grand prix just outside the windows, depending on that video you play on the object.

So I want to Place an object on top of the video object in the z-order.

I hope this is as clear as it has to bee, cause I'm not sure I can explain it any more cleare.

        Kind regards,
        Jonas

Simply, in AMS (as in other many developing softwares) the video window is drawn in front of other page elements, even if you set it to stay in the background.

It seems to me there is no way to work around of this.

as longedge says masking will do this

create a mask from your image
solid areas are black , and transparent areas are white
and when you apply this mask to video object only transparent area will appear
it will look like object behind the image.

With proper masking you can get exactly the effect you want. Mask out where the walls are, so the video is shown only for the windows. Then align the masked video object with the image.

The video object is a window, and cannot be hidden /overlaid with another window. This is how Windows (the OS) works.

I get a similar problem when trying to put an object on top a flash object. The flash object won't go to the back. Ironically on another project it does.
I remember Rizla+ once saying that the priority/z order might depend on which one was created first, not sure if this is what he was on about. I'd like more help on this if possible please.

Not sure if these'll help, but here's a couple of workarounds for laying objects on top of flash:
