  • MSoft ends Windows Xp support April 4 2014

Well probably the most widely used and most popular OS from Bill's shed
to date is coming to an end soon.

So get those updates if you have not and still use this Os.

    Quote:

" What is Windows XP end of support?

Microsoft has provided support for Windows XP for the past 12 years. But now the time has come for us, along with our hardware and software partners, to invest our resources toward supporting more recent technologies so that we can continue to deliver great new experiences.

As a result, after April 8, 2014, technical assistance for Windows XP will no longer be available, including automatic updates that help protect your PC. Microsoft will also stop providing Microsoft Security Essentials for download on Windows XP on this date. (If you already have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, you will continue to receive antimalware signature updates for a limited time, but this does not mean that your PC will be secure because Microsoft will no longer be providing security updates to help protect your PC.)

If you continue to use Windows XP after support ends, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Also, as more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimize for more recent versions of Windows, you can expect to encounter greater numbers of apps and devices that do not work with Windows XP. "

I thought it worth a post for old times sake

Windows XP was my all time favourite Windows operating system, ever. It's a shame it has come to an end, but I understand. Supporting an operating system for 12 bloody years is amazing!

I'll always remember the fun of programming (and learning a lot about programming) on Windows machines. I've done some hacky stuff to get things to work the way I wanted them to, but it was all possible in XP. I remember when Vista was coming out, much of the things which were possible in XP failed to work in Vista. What a disaster...

I truly consider Windows 7 to be the "Modern-day XP" though, I enjoy developing Windows software on 7 almost as much as I did on XP.

I'll probably never stop playing around in XP every now and then, and my software will support XP for a long long time!

7 is really just a polished and working varient of vista, more evolution than revolution.
8 saw some more fundamental changes although for some it will remain a bit of a 'Bob' if infinitely more capable.
Go on someone else her must have seen Bob

I'm tending more towards linux these days, shame there's no real APMS equivalent as it is an awsomely handy tool to have :( The closest I guess was kylix but that died a slow death years ago.

Comparing 7 with Vista is like comparing Apples and oranges. Visually it might have looked a bit like Vista, but functionally / technically you shouldn't compare them
