Happy Friday!!

Just thought I would post and say so. My wife and I went to see the movie SeaBiscuit. My wife being a horse lover, loves the book and we went to the movie this afternoon. Yes I played hookie from work to be able to do it, but I figure it is a pay off for the other morning when I was working until 2:00 am.

Anywho, the movie is a great feel good movie. If you are affected by those types of movies, you might get chills and choked up. Yes I am one of those people, who for some unknown reason, is affected by feel-good movies. Even if you are not a horse person it is a great movie of the underdog (or should I say underhorse) who triumphs.

Have a great weekend.

Re: SeaBiscuit

My roomate just finished that new book about Seabiscuit. Definitely a great story. I was a small kid compared to my classmates (I started grade school at age 5, most here start at 6 or 7) but I still did very well at sports just through pure drive, so I relate quite heavily to Seabiscuit, and indeed all underdogs. In fact very heavily, I know all too well what it feels like to race someone twice your size, and what it takes internally to beat them. (If anyone's wondering it's just a rusty taste and the super-amplified sound of your heart while you're doing it and then mild to extreme physical trauma afterwards)

We're both ornary too. All in all Seabiscuit is definitely my kind of people. I especially like the thing about biting people, I'll have to try that sometime...

I remain cynical however about the value of all popular commercial movies, especially vis-a-vis books.

Your wife sounds cool though, anyone who loves both horses AND books is definitely OK by me.

Looks like i`m going to see that sometime soon. I too am one of those people. Not sure if that's good or bad.

Haven't seen it yet...but just wanted you guys to know you're not alone.

I actually cried at Terminator 2. (Well, I got all teary-eyed at least.)

(The scene depicting L.A. getting nuked hit me hard, for some reason I started placing myself in various locations in the scene and imagining things like a Mom and her daughter riding up an elevator in one of the buildings, then wham...)

since we're on such things ...

I think one of the most 'tearful' movies for me was "The Horse Whisperer"
I have a passion for nature, in all its forms. To see such a beautiful animal go thru such pain was just overwhelming :'(

Oy, ya saps! We American men can't stand all this driveling on about feelings and emotional moments. Get a grip, will ya?

That being said, I did enjoy a good man-cry when Birdie finally gave in and fell in love with Justin in Hope Floats. He was just so right for her after she was so wrapped up with that jerk. I couldn't help myself, I just had to indulge my inner femininity.

The only movie that ever made me cry was "The All Nighter" with Sussanah Hoff from the Bangles because I got stuck watching it once at drive in and it was easily the worst movie ever made by any human ever. It made my soul cry, not just my eyes. This movie, and the act of my getting stuck watching it, is perhaps the single most tragic human event I've ever encountered.
