• Globalfest 2003 fireworks championships

These international fireworks championships started tonight, 6 blocks from my house http://www.calgaryplus.ca/profile/823825/. It was the coolest fireworks I've ever seen by far, just HUGE! Sitting on our deck the fireworks are almost right overtop of us. 30 minutes solid of the best and the biggest. The sound set off car alarms, barking dogs, and crying babies throughout the neighborhood. Classic stuff. Big fireworks every night this week, I'll go take some photos tomorrow. One team was creating actual geometric shapes within their fireworks, i.e. 5 point stars and stuff. Just amazing... Would've been great to video tape too. It's all here at this little lake a few blocks from our house, very picturesque place, the fireworks reflected in the lake must have been a show unto itself.

If you like fireworks, then you should go to Thunder Over Louisville. It is held the week before Derby and they set off an insane amount of fireworks. This would be one of the best fireworks shows I have ever seen.

Omigod this was an amazing thing. Every night for a week we had a half hour solid of fireworks right over our backyard at 9:30 PM. Truly amazing stuff, Team USA and Team Canada were the best but they were all awesome. Mexico had really loud blustery fanfare marching type music, that was nice and dramatic.

Why didn't you invite us over. We could have grilled out and had a cooler full of beverages and had a good night.

You have a blanket invitation, just call when you get to Calgary. Bring your skateboard...

I have not had a skateboard in years, will inlines work?

Yep, Millenium allows inlines, boards, and bikes. 24/7 (fully lit at night), free, no pads required, anyone can come anytime. Take a virtual tour http://www.gov.calgary.ab.ca/skatepa...rtualtour.html it's one of the best in the world. Lots of other great stuff to see here too. We just won that "world's best cities to live" thing in the "Cleanest Air" category. You can see the Rocky Mountains from here. Just a hop and a skip to Banff, Lake Louise, etc...

Season's coming to an end but I've been at Millenium pretty much every night this summer. I go down and skate for a few hours around 2:00 AM after I've done my day work. It's free, so that's a big plus. Life is excellent. But like I say it's getting colder at nights now, so...
