Re: Speaking of upgrading.......Macromedia Studio MX 2004
Yeah we'll buy it too but I remain heavily guarded on the topic of Macromedia's "upgrades". They're getting to be quite the gyp. This one better be good.
I mean really let's compare the difference between AutoPlay Menu Studio 3.0 and AutoPlay Media Studio 4.0. Now THAT's an upgrade. Not just a couple new features like MX. Director 8.5 to MX upgrade was a complete joke and not worth a cent, that should have been a free upgrade. Accessibilty? Sheesh. People already payed $1,200 or whatever for that thing and now they've got to pay more just for that? Embarrassing...
They better resolve the issue of people having to upgrade their player every few months to see new version content too, because this is ridiculous. They keep releasing stuff that's full of bugs and by the time they start to get it ironed out they want to give us a new bug-filled version. And you never hear them say, "Oops sorry for the several gaping security holes in the new Flash Player but we rushed to market and frankly your security was not high on the list of features which fuel sales..."
I mean sheesh if these teenagers can find these holes 2 days after release you'd think some of their team geniuses could have foreseen them in the 180 days or whatever they had to do so... Fact is they don't care or they would have made it a priority.
That reminds me of the Second Cup coffee chain who discontniued their loyalty card program citing as their reason, "Getting free coffee wasn't high on the priority list of our customers".

Nice video features being integrated - I wouldn't say they're all the way there yet, but this will help get people thinking about video in Flash more and more, so that's good for my biz at least.
Check out the other parts of the summary - interesting stuff. Seems like everyone is coming out with a "professional" version these days and then some form of lesser product based on the full-featured professional product. Very interesting.
Macromedia is pumping out the products right now - Breeze looks nifty. Contribute does too.

Breeze presentations appear to be ungood. And best of all did you see the price? No you didn't. Why? Because you have to contact them for pricing. [HOWL WITH LAUGHTER]
I was just looking at this http://www.macromedia.com/software/f...tinfo/upgrade/
Obviously it's worth it for us because we use it so much but it looks a bit sketchy to me. I think we're getting conditioned to expect less in upgrades nowadays and I think that bites. At least our dev team still has the decency to create proper, feature rich upgrades and price them properly...
It's getting to the point where Macromedia expects a few hundred to a thousand bucks a year from you in perpetuity just to stay in the loop, I'm not sure I like that trend at all. What next, you have to spend $10,000 per year just to keep your toolkit operational regardless of whether you use the new functions or not? Once those numbers get attractive enough the insurance companies will figure out some way to legally force us to insure it too, just watch.
