    Surprised nobody mentioned Kaspersky already.
The 'Internet Security' product covers everything you need and installs plugins for FF and IE. It also happens to be the most widely used AV engine.

Well.. by considering myself some kinda hacker, should I try to hack my own PC ? XD

Now I'm trying avast and it works fine for now. Tomorrow I'll try eset SM4 and then I'll try also comodo and NOD32. I'll leto you know who is the winner at the end of this competition (?)

you need more then one. I use both Malwarebytes and Nod32, between them I get great coverage.

Indeed. You should have a look at the original thread that JD is referring to:
    http://www.indigorose.com/forums/sho...ghlight=comodo
It was MicroByte who first suggested Comodo A/V, and it's free! Thoroughly recommended. :yes

I use NOD32 at home on my XP/Media Center systems, and Microsoft Security Essentials on Win 7 x64.

MSE is actually pretty impressive...aside from the occasional noticeable file scan it keeps well below the radar. I like that it lets you specify folder and program exceptions, which helps for things like Visual Studio.

I used to disable the realtime file scanning on my main system, and just do manual scans, but the malware is getting pretty nasty out there. It used to be enough to just practice safe hex and run a tight outbound firewall, but malware is getting harder to remove...it's gotten so the potential pain of repairing an infection outweighs the pain of slowing things down a little.

I started with Avast 5, I'll try it for few days by going on untrusted websites (searching for them) and see how it works against new intruders.
Then I'll try NOD32 and Eset SS 4; After this I'll do my choice about wich one to choose as antivirus software.
p.s. I see that avast is faster than previous version I tried, I saw there are changes in the search engine.. very good! Now I'm using it's free home version but if it'll win the competition I think I may buy the Internet security suite.. what do you think ?

Yep, NOD32 all the way. The best and most light-weight AV out there.

No, it is indeed small, my Eset folder is 60 mb and that's it, the executable is
small, uses just a bit of memory and resources but it's a kick-a.ss virusscanner.

It has never let anything through on my system, absolutely nothing. It doesn't
rely on periodic scans, it scans what is being opened, modified, processed at
the current time. You can set a periodic scan though, and manual scans for the
whole system and/or files is possible aswell.

It is really a great antivirus package. Eset Smart Security too, as Rizla said,
it contains the NOD32 engine aswell.

I always used Firefox. Never used IE and I'll never use it.

Other security software on my pc (OS: XP prof) there is Hijack this and TuneUp utilities version 2008 with some updates I did since they were released.

I heard about NOD 32 but anyone around me (forums and friends) says that it is fast and small, too small to find any kind of viruses.. is this true ?
Avast I used it for long time and it was good when I started with, but it became slower with 4.5 version (i can't remember if it was 4.5 or else..) so I tried avira. Do you think version 5 is better than previous versions or it is till slower ?
Anyhow I'll try ESET Smart Security 4 and Avast 5, hope one of these to be better than avira. Thanks for suggestions guys.

Yeah a condom, but you could prevent this by not having se... downloading
potential infected software! And then still, NOD32 scans these files aswell.
