Is there a possibility to open a message box in case the installer is updating an old version and uninstalls the old version? We have some cases where users want to get informed about thso.

The uninstall is performed silently, so by default you wouldn't be able to show a message when the old version is removed.You may be able to show a dialog, if you have a CA with VBScript or LuaScript to display a message, executed in the product during the removal (not in the MSI package of the new product), but I am not 100% sure that it would work as expected.
