Re: Ipix panoramas
What formats can you output from ipix, i.e. are they java applets or what?

Re: Ipix panoramas
Yeah, Corey, I believe they're Java applets. There is no 3rd party software required to view them in a modern browser installation. Check one out here... (use the drop-down menu to pick a room/view)

Re: Ipix panoramas
My firewall appears to be nuking it for whatever reason but I see your point.
Ok so I would then reccomend creating pseudo-VR in flash and using that. I am releasing a killer training CD soon called, "Creating applications with Flash and AutoPlay Media Studio" which outlines that process amongst tons of other advanced stuff.
Keep that a secret though, I haven't even showed that to management yet. I'm doing it in my spare time and it's still a little ways off being done but when it is, I guarantee you it will be the definitive guide to using flash with AMS.

Re: Ipix panoramas
Seriously though, you want to help make it a reality, send that comment to there's no way for him to know there's a demand for my CD if you guys don't tell him. He's the force behind everything good which has happened here, if he knows you guys want it he'll allow me to feature it on the new AutoPlay Site.
He's unbelievably busy though so don't bombard him. A simple, "Hey I caught wind of a flash training CD in the works, just letting you know that I'd love to buy one. Yours truly..." will suffice. I don't want him to feel that he's being backdoored.
AGRO - You'll love it, I've put together some great stuff, including some cool techniques no one else seems to have discovered yet.

Re: Ipix panoramas
Hi,
While still working in demo mode (will get purchase ok in 2 weeks), I am working on a project for which I am trying to put pano items together in AMS. I found PMVR to be the best for that. Java applet, embedded in HTML, inserted as web object into AMS. Transfer of variables for easy control. It works very nicely.
I am definitely sold on AMS4. By next month, it will replace our current multimedia authoring tool.
Cheers,
Yossi

Re: Ipix panoramas
I definitely do not reccomend the use of Java if reliability and platform consistency is your goal.
Over here for example the I-pix movies do not play since my firewall blocks applets. No error message, just a blank spot instead of the applet.
And just for the record never, ever use applets in anything mission critical. Notice that none of the fortune 500 companies do.

Re: Ipix panoramas
Skywalker,
The newest version of Ipix Builder lets you save your images
in a Quick Time format as well as an executable version. The
.exe will pop up from the ams program and run as a stand alone program. You can embed the QT version though, I believe.

Re: Ipix panoramas
A Quicktime object is something I have begged the dev team for in 5.0 I'm not sure how easy it is though, we'll see. For now there's no way to embed quicktime directly into your AutoPlay Media Studio applications.

Re: Ipix panoramas
Bruce,
My complaint about QT is that the player adds loading time (especially if you are working online). In addition, PMVR has a GREAT! feature in that it can show a map of the scene which is interactively linked to the pano itself. It shows the angle of view and the hotspots on the map. And it is very light in terms of loading time.
Corey, your comment on applets is right, but I think it is fair to state that Java applets are common enough to justify usage.

Re: Ipix panoramas
Really? I never see applets anywhere. Never used a single one personally either. Once my CD comes out you'll see the power of the flash take on panos, it's easy to do interactive navigation hotspots, add audio hints, etc...
Calvin Klein just did one for something called "URGE" which was brillliant. Way cooler than quicktime or I-pix.
The thing about flash VR is that you can include visual effects, etc. So you get the same functionality but with added power and best of all, almost everyone has flash already installed nowadays...
