• 4.0 still won't do animated GIF's??

I'm using a demo of 4.0 and trying without luck to create an Image that uses an animated GIF. The .gif extension isn't listed as a file type that can be imported. Also tried to trick it by changing extension to .jpg, didn't work.

C'mon! When are animated GIF's gonna be supported??

If you really need it, try re-coding your animated GIF as a looping flash (or even AVI).

What app(s) do I use to recode the animated GIF as a looping flash or AVI?? Is that built in to APMS? Thx

You could also display the .gif in a Web Browser Object, if you don't mind the Web Browser Object's border (or take steps to hide it as described in other threads on this forum).

There's tons of apps which will convert that file. Flash itself can do that. Just import your gif to frames and then export your movie as AVI or flash. I tend to use flash.

Many other programs such as Adobe's Premiere and Image Ready (Included in Photoshop) can do this too but I would just use flash directly probably.

A lot of people don't realize how flexible Flash is for file I/O but it is.

grab paintshoppro (demo) that comes with animation shop.. this is a pretty handy program that will let u create/change animated gifs..and output them in (admist other things) avi and animated gif.. u can choose the codec and just output in say divx just fine and quickly

Thanks for the responses.

If I change it to Flash, will the target machine need to have the Flash browser plugin installed, or does APMS itself handle the rendering of any Flash content?

Same with AVI -- will the target need a codec (Indeo, Cinepak, etc.) installed or does APMS handle displaying the AVI's in the compiled project?

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm there?

OK, one (hopefully) final question. I think I'll convert to Flash. If the user doesn't have the Flash Player ActiveX control installed, what will happen?

1) APMS autorun.exe will display a blank rectangle where the Flash should be
2) APMS autorun.exe will crash
3) the world will come to an end
4) something else

1.
4.

On the flash object in AMS under the Alternate tab, you can select
If Objects Activex Control is not installed :
Hide Object (4)
Show default missing control representation (1)
Show custom image - space to define image (4)

There is a bug in the Project settings requirements bit, urls work OK, but if you insert a filename it doesn't - same for the Helpfile, I believe Lorne has logged it.

Yep, and it's already been fixed for the next version.

There is NO sarcasm, I feel that Mark is doing an amazing job on the knowledge base articles as is evidenced by how accurately the above links answer your questions but it appears you didn't bother to read them so perhaps it's less relevant than I thought.
