Re: Creating a shortcut to DUN

That may help but documentation on the ins might be better. Do you have a link to MS site where it talks about .ins files.

What I am wondering is if there is an argument that would allow the creation of a shortcut when the setup.ins is completed.

i found this key with a default connection in the registry.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings\Connections

AMS detects the users OS and then loads the correct page. From there, it makes them accept our Acceptable Use Policy(AUP). If accepted, it writes a key to the registry so that it doesn't ask again. It then gathers information from the user

    Real Name
    Login Name
    Password (masked)
    Confirm Password (masked)
    Select Local STATE
    Select Local CITY
    Select Local PHONE#

All of this information is exported to a file called setup.ins.
When the user clicks 'finish' it runs the setup.ins file. The setup.ins is a microsoft standard for setting internet settings. If it would help, I can post the .ins file so you can see an example of the file.

That is what I was thinking. How did you go about using AMS4 to create a default DUN? Does that give any pointers to where the default file would be located?

I will ask around and see what I can find on this.

This is precisely what I want it to do. But how do I tell it to grab the default DUN? I have searched the registry, and I don't find any call to the DUN Connection. I have searched my HD, and not finding either. I guess creating the shortcut isn't the problem, locating the file to create shortcut from is the problem.

    AMS 4 has a Shortcut.Create option

    Shortcut.Create ("%Desktop%","OUR ISP","defaultDUN.exe")

This will create a shortcut on the desktop entitled 'OUR ISP' and linked to defaultDUN.exe

Is this along the lines of what you are looking for AMS to do for you?

Re: Creating a shortcut to DUN

My AMS program creates a default DUN Connection, so Yes I would like to create a shortcut to the default connection. I am not worried about AOL or any other ISP for that matter. I am simply looking to copy a shortcut to OUR ISP to the desktop. This is probably not an AMS question, but I have searched Microsoft for countless hours to no avail.

thanks again. I hope this info helps you, help me!

Are you looking to create a shortcut to their default DUN on their desktop?

Do you need to worry about people who use AOL or other program with their own Dial-up program? Just curious.

    Creating a shortcut to DUN

I have created a program to ease the internet setup of our clients. I have been successful with everything so far(with the help of user from this board). I am now trying to get the program to create a shortcut to the DUN connection it creates.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate them.

I am looking to create shortcuts in win9x and winXP on the desktop.

    Thanks in advance
