  • Error

    Hi,

I'm using AutoPlay Media Studio version 4.0.0.3
Every time I start the software I receive the following error:
Access violation at address 0199CA21 in module 'PTxSCP.ocx'. Read of address 00000000.

    Can somebody advise me?
    Thanks

    Re: Error

That OCX is part of the Shell Control Pack from Plasmatech. I'm not sure if AMS4 uses it for it's Windows Explorer dialogs and tree view or not. You might want to make sure the OCX is registered properly with your system.

I'm using Windows XP Pro. I already registered the control but I still receive the error message

        Re: Error

I know that Plasmatech just released ver 2.0, but I have not run into any problems with it's backwards compatibility in any of my applications. There are no support files that are needed for the OCX, maybe you have a corrupt file.

          Re: Error

Do you know which software has installed this control. I believe that the control from Plasmatech is not download for free?

            Re: Error

Yes, AMS4 uses the control. I looked through the uninstall data and see that it is listed.

You probably could uninstall and reinstall to take care of the problem.

                Re: Error

I put the OCX on my web site. Unregister the one you have on your system, download this one and register it.

                ptxscp.ocx

                Unregister:
                regsvr32 /u C:\windows\system\ptxscp.ocx

                Register:
                regsvr32 C:\windows\system\ptxscp.ocx

                  Re: Error

Thanks Worm for the file. I did the following: uninstalled AMS4, unregistered the ocx, rebooted, installed AMS4, unregistered ocx, deleted ocx, copied your ocx file. result: same error only 'Access ... 0199CA21' has been changed into 'Access ... 019BAC88'.

                    Re: Error

Well, I'm at a loss then. The OCX has no dependencies. I have nothing more to offer. Sorry.

Maybe someone from IR will jump in on the thread.

I'm very curious as to what the solution will be.

                      Re: Error

Wait a minute, I just found something on Plasmatech site.

The Shell Control Pack ActiveX works best with version 4.72 or later of the COMCTL32.DLL. It works with earlier versions, but if you experience unexplained problems or instability you should upgrade. Microsoft provides an upgrade utility which you can redistribute with your programs.
You can download the upgrade from here on Microsoft's web site here

                        Re: Error

thanks again. I just checked my version of the comctl32.dll and it's this one: 5.82.2800.1106.
The one from your link is an earlier version and not supported for XP. Shall I still download the one from your link?

I wouldn't unless someone with more authority than me says to.

                            Re: Error

I understand. Thanks Worm for trying. As the error resists I have to choose for an other software package to create auto run menus. It's a pitty as I did not have any problems with AMS 3 in the past. Hope that still somebody finds a solution.

Only other thing I can think of is to compile a program that uses the OCX and have you run it. It'd be interesting to see if the OCX errors out on you in another program.
