Also do you know where the Web Object Temp files go? I made an address bar as well and I notice flipping from menu's and web pages that the URLs seem to be retained in memory.

I don't think it uses any temp files...it just stores the last URL it was at in system memory (RAM).

I tried this Web Object on a Win95 with ie3, and nothing works, which answers a previous post of mine, whether the web browser needed to be installed or not

The Web Browser Object needs version 4.01 or newer of the Internet Explorer control, which is installed with:

Windows 98 (or newer)
Internet Explorer 4 (or newer)

I notice that pages resize themselves to try to fit the window, one reason the page in question doesnt fit is because it uses a unsizable frame menu on left side, it's a javascript applet/form, I need to access it on a regular basis from many different computers, you never know what type of system you will be using , most are ok using just the browser itself, I just thought I could force pages to fit in the AMS window even if they were smaller.

I guess I did misunderstand. [img]/ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif[/img] I thought he wanted a way to make the web page look good when it was that small. My point was to just make it so that the page adjusts to whatever size it is displayed in.

No it wouldn't, a page can only get so small, it doesn't matter if you use CSS or otherwise to get to that minimum size, it can only get so small. This is incontrovertible.

So the page can either be squeezed down to fit in 640 X 480 or not, there's no if about it. And it doesn't matter what method you use to get that page to it's minimum size, CSS certainly offers no help in this regard above other methods.

Maybe you misunderstood his ask Lorne, he's trying to squeeze a large fom into a 640 X 480 screen without scrollbars.

Sure it would. Just make the content resize according to the page size.

Although you'd get better results by designing everything to reflow properly (assuming any images on the page aren't too wide or too tall, but you can make them resize proportionally to the page if you want).

Web pages by design don't have a size, unless the designer imposes one. If it's your goal to not have a horizontal scroll bar, then don't impose a horizontal size.

Actually CSS won't help where fixed width wouldn't... It's an issue of size not style. It doesn't matter how you make your content tiny.

If you can, just design the page so it reflows naturally. Use CSS, don't set any fixed widths, use percentages and relative sizes for everything.

At least with the internal Web Browser object you don't have to program for different browsers, just (potentially) slightly different versions of IE.

If you don't have control over the page design...then there isn't much you can do about it, unfortunately. Worm's suggestion of wrapping the page inside a borderless table is a good one, though.

Or just make the Web Browser Object bigger. [img]/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif[/img]

If all else fails, you could just use a File - Open action to open the pages in the user's default browser instead.

Shrinking all the text may help but there's no way to do this 100% for sure except to rebuild it in flash. If you do that you'll have no problem. Liek I say though if the page is short just make all the text and text fields really tiny. No other way.

You can arbitrarily disable the scrollbars by adding scroll="no" to the body tag of you rHTML page but that doesn't mean it won't still extend past your screen edges...

actually it's not for my web page but for web pages in general, This is a diagnostic style CD made for use with alot of old crappy computers, alot of times screen rez is 640x480 and the web pages I gotta access are always way to big and the forms I gotta fill in you have to scroll here scroll there, not a major setback as much as an annoyance(like me) I was hoping to get these pages to do a force fit in my web browser object window..see what I mean?

Best I can offer is to put your page inside a table and set its width to 100%. The table width will change with the sizing of the browser. There more to it, but that should get you started.

Does anyone know how you would force a webpage to size itself in the Web Browser Object window, so that there would never be any horizontal scroll bar, just make the whole page smaller and scroll up and down only..make sense?
