• To Flash or not to Flash!

    Hi guys,

I have a project whereby I want to include two flash movies. The question is, is it possible to launch Flash 'projector' files as opposed to SWF files 'WITHIN' my AMS pages? If so, how?

    TIA!

    Nick.

Sure, just like you launch any other executable:

    file.execute

Of course, it won't actually launch inside the AMS interface, but then you probably knew that already.

      Thanks for the reply Eric!

Yes, I am aware that Projector files can be launched by AMS4, I just wondered whether it could be launched within the the interface, and you have kindly just answered the question!

      Many thanks!

Re: To Flash or not to Flash!

I believe there are *tools* which exist to extract .swfs from projector .exes. That would be a better choice. Projectors are not made for this purpose, in fact they are specifically made to "stand alone". (Not unlike the "hunka hunka stinky cheese" from the songs of my youth)

As a Flash disciple I don't reccomend this usage of projectors if it can be avoided... (as a human being I reccomend Tofu)

Re: To Flash or not to Flash!

          Hi Corey,

          Thanks for responding.

I would prefer to use Flash SWF movies as opposed to Projector files too! However, there are many customers (i.e. the end user) that do not have web browsers let alone a flash plug-in. Therefore, I am left with no other option but to use Flash Projector to view the movies. Unless you can tell me otherwise

          Thanks again.

Re: To Flash or not to Flash!

I prefer to have my application do a flash test and then give them the option to install flash. The vast majority of your end users will have flash... Flash plug-in has been part of Windows OS for quite a while...

Re: To Flash or not to Flash!

              Corey,

I have taken your advice. I've just applied for the Macromedia Shockwave distribution licence (which includes flash player 6 if I've understood things correctly).

Just a quick question though. Are you saying that flash is automatically embedded into MS Windows OS irrespective of whether any web browsers have been installed?

              Thanks again Corey!!

Re: To Flash or not to Flash!

Yeah it seems to me shockwave/flash plug-in has been part of windows since 98SE or so, I may be wrong though.

It's still best to test for version and then trigger your installer accordingly. The download from Macromedia will include a link to a file named flashplayer6_winax.exe that's the one I always use. Works fine...
