  • Missing Controls pop up!

    Cory and guys,

Been away for a while, as you may have noticed due to the lack of annoying questions regarding apparently easy tasks in AMS.... got a bad sector on my hdd and had to get a new one in the shop. Since I got my computer back I don't seem to have flash and when I started up AMS to make sure I still had everything, I got a dialogue box telling me I didn't have flash..... It was brilliant and possibly a fantastic result to some questions regarding getting the media player status so many people have been asking of late..... is there any way you could give me the code for that window which includes the check box for do not show me again so we could use it on our cds but also save a small (miniscule) file on the user's computer so they wouldn't see the message again.... if that makes sense?

    Cheers

    Stephen

Glad to have you back, not sure on that code though, can you remember who created it? Or what it was called? (or any other hints which might make it easier to find?)

      Hey Cory....

It's code that appears with AMS when it doesn't find Flash on your computer.... it has a window where you have displayed the various files that are needed to run the program, or rather files that will facilitate the added enjoyment from using the program. I'm not sure how you'd test it without having to delete flash as the fine people in our computer support place did on my machine!

It's in the code of the AMS creator, ie: when I double clicked on my desktop shortcut to get into AMS to edit my projects a window pops up telling me I don't have flash and if I double click it will take me to the website. I am presuming you can set this for whatever files you want to search for on the system, and I think it could be a very professional looking interface right at the start of the cd. Also there is the option to not show this message in future. If this is checked I presume there is a file saved onto the computer and if that file is found the messages do not display.

Please forgive the delays between messages but I am operating remotely for the next two months....

Hope all is well with all!

You can do this in your Projects Settings. You can specify what the minimum requirements are for your Project. If the end user doesn't have them, they will get the dialog.

Yes Worm is 100% on the money here, very easy to add to your projects too. Additionally, just for reference only, if you double click a Flash Object (Or any of the objects which function through an ActiveX control) you will see an "Alternate" tab which offers you some last chance solutions to missing controls. Hey guys....

I got that before, and I have a few project settings set for if the date isn't correct and the like, but the window that was in the AMS seemed to have a big window where there was a list of the missing components and an icon and when you double click on it you are taken to the website. I just thought it looked very professional!

You guys have any ideas on this one? I think it's a great way of allowing the user to choose which files they want to download and could have the added bonus of the user feeling they are getting more stuff on the CD....
