  • Icon File

Hey guys, in the Project Settings - Build section you can specify what icon you want to be shown after you build.... my question, how do you go about creating an Icon file? Does it have to be of certain size or quality and what format does it have to be in?

    Thanking you...

    Re: Icon File

.ico is the format. You can use a freeware tool like irfanview to create an icon out of a .bmp for example or you can get a dedicated icon tool like Microangelo or Axialis workshop... I reccomend Microangelo, it's about $50 or so and it's a heck of a tool, but that being said you can create superb icons just using photoshop/illustrator and one of the many fine freeware tools out there such as irfanview or bmp2ico.

I believe 32 X 32 is the size. But an .ico file can contain several sizes so if you get a tool liek Microengelo you can create an icon that contains a 32 X 32 and a 16 X 16 and you can have them both at a variety of color depths such as 16 color, 256 color, etc. That way your icons work well in different scenarios.

XP icons are different BTW, they have more options. Lots of great tutorials on icon creation on Google...

I own Microangelo, and after using it, I don't think I could go back to another method of creating and editing icons for Windows. It is simply the best.

        Re: Icon File

I got the evaluation download earlier, I have been having problems trying to get my other files to download into it clearly, would you recommend starting from scratch to design logos or is there a preferred way of doing it?

I know my way around photoshop ok, and was thinking that I could save the files as 48 X 48 jpgs and add them in and they are really unclear.

Also, sorry to be bugging you, how do you get the transparency bit? I presumed it was with the blue background you start with on a new project, but if I try to delete something I don't want it goes to the background colour (usually white) and I don't know how to get the background blue up again.... any ideas?
