• Anyone have a ready made Flash checking script?

Does anyone have a ready-made script for AMS that checks for Flash player installation? I have a workaround, but I'd like to be able to sense this in a script so I can have a project offer to install the Flash player. Yes, Corey, I've signed up for distribution with Macromedia. I'm sorry if i've missed out on something...

But, if you go to Project Settings > Requirements and check the Macromedia Flash Player Control one, isn't that sufficent?

Only if you can verify that every computer your 3,000 discs are being distributed to have a functional Internet connection.

Thanks, Corey. I was just being lazy in an artifical rush to get things done. Guess I'll just spin my own.

Oh I see, I thought you were just testing for the lack of Flash not necessarily for version... I reccomend my old trick of using a 1 X 1 Flash movie Eric, it's 100% and takes just a fewsecs to setup. Remember? If you need a movie made just let me know and I'll whip one up. You plop it one page one and if they have appropriate flash version it will jump to page 2, if not it will stick at page 1, i.e. an "Install Flash" page... This is the only 100% reliable method I know of.

Right. I've got the original 1x1 SWF with FSCommand that I built for the other project - I can just repurpose it here. Thanks for reminding me. It's been a long day!

Yeah, if you need to target a different Flash version just let me know. I believe that one was published as Flash 6 but I can't recall. Should work fine...

Wrongo. You can launch a local file from there, too. Since you say you're licensed to distribute the installer, you can just include it in your Distribution folder and put the filename in the "Information URL" field. That way, double-clicking the item in the requirements dialog will open the installer, instead of going to the Macromedia web site.

D'oh! You're absolutely right, Lorne, my man! But of course.

Thanks for that - easiest fix.

Lorne's suggestion is the way to go. Very cool.

One problem I have to work out is that the player installation completes on top of the flash file and.....it asks for a reboot. (although once it finishes the file plays fine...)

Might have to separate the installation process and then begin the AMS project with flash. It would be nice if it just installed and went away....

                            Nice thread....very helpful....thanks.
