I've always just used a Text Box Object in place of the edit box.. you can't edit the text in a text box object, its read only.

If you are wanting a "Read-Only" edit box, what I've done in the past is as Corey said, make an image of the Edit box, then use the Text Object or Image Caption to insert text dynamically.

I don't really understand why you'd want to have an edit field which doesn't accept input but you can always take a screencap and make an image out of it...

As to the button thing you can show or hide them, so it's easy to have a second button hidden which does nothing, and then just show that instead of the active button any time you like...

Not sure if that helps, a couple ideas though...

When i run my program you can type in them, Is there a way you can prevent this and is there a way to disable a button from being clicked on.
