  • CD Extra Mode

Can anyone explain this please? I have 2 CD's, both contain .cda tracks in session one, then data/video in the second session. Both have exactly the same project settings. But one CD when inserted into the CD-ROM opens up fine into the autoplay feature, whereas the second one tends to open up as an audio cd only. If you view the CD in windows explorer it shows only audio tracks and is listed as an Audio CD until you refresh it, then the autoplay files appear. The only thing different bewteen each CD is, the one that works fine and autoruns OK contains video data in the second session, the one that isn't autorunning contains only text data. I wouldnt imagine this would make any difference at all. So why is it that the second CD automatically opens up Windows Media Player when you insert it and you cannot run the autoplay feature unless you insert it into the CD Recorder Drive and click it manually from Explorer. But the first CD regardless of which drive you enter it in, the autoplay feature works fine and doesn't attempt to open up Windows Media Player. Any ideas? Hope this all makes sense!!

I'm not sure how AutoPlay Media Studio fits into this perhaps you could elaborate?

      Re: CD Extra Mode

Basically, I have used the Autoplay to create a presentation for the second session. To display information on the audio tracks, lyrics, etc.
So its a presentation really that goes alongside the music.
So the audio part plays in a normal cd-player, yet the presentation I want to obviously autorun on a PC. One does, one doesn't, as described above.

Shot in the Dark here so take it or leave it...

I'm assuming you created both CD's so you know you created them exactly the same. I'm also going to assume you are using windows XP. If not this wont apply.

Window XP has a feature that let's you specify what you want automatically done to a CD when it is inserted in the drive. This setting is then applied to all CD's of this type. This feature is turned on by default so maybe it is messing what is done the CD when you insert the CD. Try it on a windows 98 or 2000 machine and see if it acts any differently.

OR... I could be totatally off here... This is just a thought....

            Re: CD Extra Mode

I'm using Windows 98..I have turned off the Auto Insert Notification setting, but then Data CD's don't autorun either. So I've had to put it back on. I have tried the CD again several times, and it seems that 50% of the time the autorun feature kicks in and runs, the other 50% the audio tracks open up the media player. So I'm at a loss as to why sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have tried in on another system using Windows ME and it always opens up as an audio CD there, unless you insert it into the CD-recorder drive then autoplay runs. Strange one this.
