I haven't figured out how to pass the search word variable along yet. I think we may need some help with that.
As far as how to load the xls file is concerned, it depends on where they will be physically located in your project and, how you are going to make them available to the user.
Are you going to break out the xls's into categories and want to use buttons for each, or put them in sections and use a single, or even double list boxes to make them available?
The actual load action is in the page - on show event (web.Load.URL). this would be put into an event ( button click, listbox selection, etc) and have the path to the desired file.
I would make a nice html welcome page (company logo/theme) to preload into the web object when the page is loaded. That would be a professional touch.
Figure out whether you want the file selection method to be on the side of the web object, over or under the web object, or even on a seperate page from the web object (to get more real estate for the web object).
If you have a lot of categories, then a listbox/combo/ or tree node is the way to go. If you use listbox, or combo boxes to display the files, you can get them to do an auto detect of the folder(s). This would make the project viable for more than one product line.
From what I have seen in this thread, you don't know very much about scripting, and it's going to take a bit to get this project going, so jump into some of the easier things first. Go over to Azmanar's and Mina's sites to get some xamples on web objects, list boxes, etc.
If you can show a pic of how you want the thing to work and post some path info to the files, I may help you a little more on getting this done as it sounds like you are on a tight timeline. The problem with someone else doing the work for you is if the code breaks, or you need to change something in a hurry, you are at the mercy of someone else (I may not even look at this forum for weeks, sometimes). This could be embarrassing in the workplace. So you need to know how it works.
    Roll up your sleeves!

Hi Roboblue, i do like this example and i do think it's useable now however, i do need 2 pieces of info if you can help me. The first is how to auto open my xls file and not the example airport codes one and secondly, how to get the search word button to work.

Here it is with WORM's keystroke dll.
Hit the search button and it will open the find window.
I think there is a way to pass a search variable, but you may have to wait until the wormster finds this thread.
I think it's useable now, as the find panel is in the AMS project and you still only have to type in the search word once.

yes, IE is integrated with Office, so Office apps can open in IE-browser, as long as you dont use a downloadmanager for downloading office extensions.
btw, you can use a webobject indeed, or use my example, you need to code in both .
    Webobject opens you excel file.
My example opens in a new window (fileRun).

Find yourself comfortable in 1 of those 2 solutions

I had forgotten about this, but doesn't IE open an .xls file?
I just tried it here and it opens the .xls. Then doing a CTL+F on the web object opens the find dialog.
I was thinking of using a web object in AMS to open a local .xls, then use WORM's keystroke dll to pass a search variable to the web object.
Here is an apz that has the browser set up with a file browser, seach input box and button, print button, etc. It just doesn't have the keystroke dll or script to run it.
At the very least, you could create a web page (html) with 2-3 frames, and use a javascript or other coding to search the webpage (xls file).
I actually did this for a product catalog back in AMS 3.0 or 4.0 days. I could even pull up images of the found items. All in the AMS window, which I would much prefer over having to carry/open a separate application.

    Hey Andy,

The statements I gave was an example of how you could code it.
The code you gave isnt valid.
Like the last sentence isnt a code.
I will look at it when im home, im building the same app (kinda like the one you have) and post the code.

    You will have to wait

    Kind Regards,
    Casper

Oh no, you took it the wrong way, i wasnt suggesting for a minute that you were attacking.......I was merely injecting a bit of humour into the situation. I'm very pleased about the response i've got from all involved on this thread, Thx a lot.

    Np, you're always welcome.

I hope it will work, it must be something like that, if not post me again and i will look at it when im home (i will build it too).
    Good luck coding !

    Hey Andy,

it wasnt meant to attack you in any way !
i was just saying this problem isnt hard, and for any problem there will be a solution, as the problem was created by ourself ..
For some it can be hard, cause they never code be4, after all im a noob too, cause i dont know everything what AMS could give me.
Even after coding years in java and javascript im still a noob, cause i dont know everything what it could give me
But remember, we learn from eachother, 1 day we were all noobs. For me, i love to help any1 !

Im not at home, i dont use AMS right now, but lets go to the point:
    1) Pricelist.xlm,Pricelist1.xlm,Pricelist2.xlm, etc.
    2) Sorry, my fault. "Pricelist.xlm" is already a string.
    3) Make an inputbox in your application. With a nice label above it, containing the title "any words".
dont know the exact code, but this will be the 'known' structure.
    If button.Click(true) then
    inputStrings = inputbox.GetText();
    inputStrings = %.."inputStrings"..% or inputStrings = *.."inputStrings"..*
//It must be something like this.
    FindFile(inputStrings);
Put the founded files into a listbox.

Its not the code what used to be in AMS, its just an example
Hope this will works for you, or some1 picks this up and make an example for you Im a busy guy, very busy, thus it can take awhile to make me one.
I can fast reply, as u know that people works for the goverment can take it easy as they want

    Kind Regards,
    Casper

Im not at home, but i can give you my analyzes on that:
Make a listbox and a button.
Find files in extenstion of that excelfile.
Convert name excelfile intro string (text).
If string (text) = %name% then
    File.Open.....
or *name* or whatever it stands before or after the name.

This will probably help you out

    Sincerely,
    Casper
Whoa...... easy tiger! Did I mention I have a very small brain? not capable of taking too much info in at once, my missuss says its a bloke thing.

Can we take what you posted step by step please, i really am a newbie.

    1) 'Find files in extenstion of that excelfile.' These will be the excel price list files that i've incorporated into the project.
    2) 'Convert name excelfile intro string (text).' Dont understand this bit.
    3) 'If string (text) = %name% then' In the (text) bit, is that the search parameter that the customer will put in? '%name%' what do i put in this bit?
    4) 'or *name* or whatever it stands before or after the name.' I assume this will be the same as whats in the %name% bit?

Sorry for being a div. and thx for the help.
