Thanks Bule thats certainly sounds fair and a chance for a free version isn't to shabby either.

You will most likely get v7 for around 50% of the real price, since you are upgrading to next major version. Unless you win as a beta tester, in that case you win it for free!

    How does subscription work.

In my case I purchased 6.04, there was a Vista patch and now I pay for version 7 or is the an upgrade subscription?

    Cheers

I pay for SpySweeper antispyware via a yearly subscription and the price is vary fair, I feel, and the updates are near seamless. Thus, I personally am not scared off by such, as I have been doing that for years now.

And regular updates will greatly increase my productivity (lessen the workarounds I have to do), add new features I can easily offer to my clients, and speed up the fixes for bugs found (which is rare).

I'm looking forward to a fair-priced subscription based AMS offering.

That's exactly it Derek, but there will be a major price discount for those who keep their subscription current (not yet decided, but likely 75%) versus the old-style "upgrade model", which has been about 50%. Keeping it fair and an excellent value is something that is very important to us, so unlike with some subscription style models, we'll still make upgrade discounts available to those customers who don't want/need to be always up-to-date and with full tech suppport, but the best deal will be for those who keep their subscription active. I think it's a win-win scenario as it lets us gauge demand and implement new features in a timely fashion, rather than monolithic upgrades that come out every year or two.

..and when we take a look at the suggestions forum, we can see that there are plenty of features to potentially come for the next few years! :yes

Which is, essentially, no different to what it is now. One can be seen as a subscriber to AMS6.x until v7.0 is released. Then, one must re-subscribe.

That is the philosophy behind it. It is good for us because it keeps the product's revenues steady and predictable and it is great for our customers because the product never gets stale and they don't have to wait years for majore new features.

In response to leebos, I just want to clarify that the subscription is on the support and updates. It is not a "rental" license. You will forever have access to and be able to use all versions of the software that were released during your subscription period.

Well, I guess that leaves me out. I can't justify that kind of ongoing expense when I only use AMS for personal and volunteer work. Being retired and on a fixed income just will not allow it. My AMS programming is just a way to keep my mind active.

Maybe we will start having quarterly votes among the users to choose which features go in... "Democracyware"... not a bad idea...
Not a bad idea at all. :yes I realy need SQLite updated also. AMS is such an awesome development tool, it definetly needs some good database support. I like the idea of building SQLite in rather than a plugin.

Was the sqlite plugin update even on the table??
I hate to keep harping on it but it's been a real deal killer keeping us from releasing some things.
I'm pretty sure it's the cause of data dissapearing intermittently, etc.

We can wait months but I don't know about years.
The plugin is waaaay behind sqlite versions....

Updating the SQLite was definitely on the table. In fact, building it into the product (as opposed to a plugin) was on the table. It made it pretty far but then got cut in favor of features that we felt would have more broad appeal in the short run.

But the SQLite update is still on the table for sure. As to a timeline, I am not sure. Maybe we will start having quarterly votes among the users to choose which features go in... "Democracyware"... not a bad idea...
