Newcomer needs help please

I need to create a menu that on opening will go and look for acrobat and if not there install. I bought the training CD,s but they tend to only supply more complex scenarios which include writing to the regstry. I am still learning Autoplay and although hope to dabble in the more complex later, at the moment I need a simple version. Does anyone have a file I could view so that I can learn how it is put together please.
