  • autorun doesn't work after restart

I've noticed that autorun doesn't run after you do a restart. I am fine with the splash screen not appearing after each reboot. But I want to know if there is a way to have it start each time a user tries to access the CD-ROM drive through "MY COMPUTER". I have noticed that either AutoPlay Menu (I have version:2.03) or Windows (win2k) Removes the following reg key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\MountPoints\E\Shell\AutoRun\com mand

    any ideas?

    thanks,

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. The only thing I can say is that if the menu works (double click, and it does autorun) then this would be a problem with your OS. I noticed that you are using version 2.0, try out the evaluation version of AutoPlay Menu Studio 3.0 at http://www.indigorose.com/files.html this is a full featured evaluation version of our product. If the problem persists then you know that it is the OS.

      Hi,
You might try upgrading to the latest version of 2.0, version 2.05. You can request an update to version 2.05 here: http://www.indigorose.com/update.html

Re: autorun doesn't work after restart

I tried version 3, and I still have the same issue

        which is:
insert the cd that I made, autorun starts and displays the menu I MADE. I close out of the menu. If I than goto "my computer" and click on the cdrom dirve, it automatically starts autorun.exe again. The problem I am having is that if you leave the cd in the cdrom drive and reboot/restart and than goto the CDROM drive from within "my computer" it will now NOT automatically start. ( I have other (vender made) CD's that can do this).

Re: autorun doesn't work after restart

Im kinda curious, posted this info on another thread. Have your menu make this change to the reigstry and see if it helps you intel. I notice this on about 2% of all the calls i recieve over customers computers:

            HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer
            name NoDriveTypeAutoRun
            type binary vaule
            value 95
on all 9x versions of windows and 2k -- i think, this has to be the value for autorun capapbility. The menu may not autorun the first time, buit next time it should, if your menu changes the registry value. This also holds true if all settings in windows says to autorun, but it still just will not do it

Re: autorun doesn't work after restart

                Hi,

This seems to be a bug in win2k. I have tested this problem on most operating systems and the only one that causes to autorun to fail after startup is win2k. The main thing to look at is the autorun.inf file, the one generated by AMS 3.0 is correct and is the same as others. We are still confused as to the reason some CD autoruns work after reboot. We found that if you do a view -> refresh then everything works according to plan. I will run some more tests to try and really pinpoint the flaw at startup. I'll post again when I have something concrete.

Re: autorun doesn't work after restart

Since this has been reproducable at IR, question is is it AMS version dependant? I tried my menu on a 2K box, and had no problems with it. Both after leaving cd in drive and restarting and various other ways, I was unable to reproduce. Iam currently using the latest update 3.05 (i think). This may indicate that it is a third party utility causing this. (Just throwing out ideas ) If I understand it right, you put cd in and it autoruns, then close out of menu. Leave cd in drive, and restart. Then you go to my computer, and double click cd -- right?

Re: autorun doesn't work after restart

I have had some success in pinpointing the problem. The first thing to notice is that this only happens on CD's that are burnt with a CD write drive. We ran some tests and realized that this does not happen on CD's that are pressed by a manufacturer. I don't know the exact reason though so I’m going to throw some ideas out.
                    1) The format that you burned with?
                    2) The way that win2k reads CD's
                    3) Pressed CD's may be read differently?
                    4) Could just be a win2k bug?
If you would like run tests I can give you some ideas.
                    1) Create your own autorun.inf file that simply calls an executable e.g. notepad.exe, burn it and see what happens.
                    2) Do the restart with some industry leaders CD's e.g. Microsoft,Adobe etc. and see what is really going on in the registry?
                    3) Try with a zip disk (has autorun functionality simply by right clicking on it) see what happens.

Any results you find will interest everybody, I can't spend much more time on this problem right now.
