  • Need some virtual CD help...

Ok, got a simple request. I am running a power point presentation with a PPviewer. Easy enough - Action Tab - run the EXE PPviewer and in the Argument - name the file. Works, but now I want to be able to run it on anyone's computers - so I need to create a virtual CD that changes to suit anyone. For example: someone might have their CD as an d: driver, or e: drive or F: drive. So how can I accomplish this? Thanks

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I will have to put the PPViewer in the same output directory as the autorun - so it is on the CD - but how do I get it to recognize which drive it is in?

      Hi David,
Simply use the built-in variable: %SrcDrv%. %SrcDrv% (or "Source Drive") gets expanded to the ROOT of the drive that your AutoPlay Menu is running on. So if you run your AutoPlay Menu off of the F:\ drive %SrcDrv% will be set to: "F:".

I think that you should read these two article, hopefully they will fully answer your question, and clear up anymore that you might have:

      (1) http://www.indigorose.com/kb/BuildingAndPreviewing.pdf - This article will explain how to burn your AutoPlay Menu on a CD-ROM

      (2) http://www.indezine.com/products/pow...ppautorun.html - This article is a tutorial which describes how to Run a Power Point Presentation off of a CD-ROM, even if the user does not have Power Point installed on their system.

Thanks Mark. I have burned over 100 CD's with AMS menu systems before, but never really used EXE files - so this is new to me. I will use the %srcDrv% and leave the last part blank - that should work. I just didn't want to waste a bunch of CD trying it out! Thanks
BTW - The second link is where I got the idea from in the first place - but it talks about using a virtual CD folder - and if you do that, doesn't it assume it will always be the Drive that is on the creators computer?

          Hi David,

No, using a Virtual CD-ROM Folder does not make AutoPlay assume that it will always be on the Drive that is on the creators computer.

If you follow the instructions defined in the Indezine article, you will use the %SrcDrv% variable, which will make sure that your AutoPlay Menu works on all drives.

I believe that you are somewhat confused about the nature of the Virtual CD-ROM Folder. In a nutshell the Virtual CD-ROM folder is used to mimic the ROOT of your finished CD-ROM. You will not bun the Virtual CD-ROM Folder to your CD-ROM; you will burn the CONTENTS of your Virtual CD-ROM Folder.

The first article that I pointed you should fully explain what the Virtual CD-ROM Folder is.
