  • quicktime 5 non-download?

I posted a this thought in a related thread, but now looking back I guess I'm gonna open this can of worms to the general forum as well. This is where I'm headed. I've decided to give up on using Windows Mediaplayer for my video stuff. I decided to go with quicktime instead for reasons of somplicity. For my video format I think I'm going to use mpeg1 since its fairly high quality. Now, what I'm curious about is if I can find a version of Quicktime5 that doesn't require a download. The reason a I say this is that I am sending this out as a resume and I don't want to make people angry by forcing them to wait fifteen minutes on quicktime to download if they only have an internet connection. Its just as likely they'll toss my cd-rom aside and move on to the next resume. So is there a one location, non file sending download of quitime5 somewhere. This is a big deal so I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks

    Re: quicktime 5 non-download?

    Hi,

Personally I really don't know if there is a "non-download" version of the QuickTime installation. I' think that there probably is a "non-download" version available, but Apple would be the people to talk to.

Perhaps some other users will know more about this.

We used to include QuickTime 4 on our CD. You need to download the installers from Apple QuickTime site, but you *should* also complete a licensing form. Apple are also quite strict about putting their logos on CDs and documentation, but this may depend on volume etc. Try http://developer.apple.com/technical/index.html

It's an oldish link, but you might find something!

There is, indeed, a stand-alone installer for Quicktime. It is available at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone/ . The current version is 5.0.2, and is a bit over 9 megs. You will, of course, have to abide by Apple's distribution requirements. You'll find that information here: http://developer.apple.com/mkt/swl/a...html#QuickTime

As a side note, I'd have to say that if I didn't already have QT installed, I probably wouldn't install it just to check out somebody's resume... I'd be looking at the next one already. It might be in your best interest to offer that portion in multiple formats.

If I would have known about this ages ago, it would have saved me a lot of headaches.

What I used to do, to be able to have it fully downloaded, was to run the small installer, let it download all the files from the internet, and while it was downloading them to the temp dir, set the files in the temp dir to read only. Then, when it got done downloading, it couldn't delete the files. Then I'd simply copy them over to another folder with the installer prog and away I'd go. This is much, much, much, much, much, much (well, you get the idea) easier.

Boy, I just got to reading Apples license for Quicktime. You'd think by installing it on more than one computer, you were stealing from them. Ouch. And I thought M$ was bad. Wonder why they're so strict about a FREE player.
