  • roll overs w/ animation from video

    jbgrabb,

I tried to accomplish what you are looking for, I managed to get mine to work:

For the Hyperlink mouseover use these actions
    Show Object aviobject1
    Refresh Window
    Play AVI Object aviobject1

    Then on the avi object:
    On video Finish:
    Hide Object aviobject1
    Refresh Window

I found that I needed to do a refresh window in between showing the avi object and playing it. Try out the "refresh window" action and reply back if it still does not work.

roll overs w/ animation from video

Okay folks I need help with this.
My goal is that I would like to to do animated roll-overs in my menu like you would see in flash. How I went about achieving that was creating my graphics in photoshop and exporting them in a high quality jpeg for my layout. Then I went into after effects and animated the portion around the button that I want to move on the roll over as an cinepak avi.
So then I took the 150x150 (1 second long animation) and layed it directly in front of the image of the button. Next I set the page properties to hide the button at menu start. Then I created a hyperlink slightly smaller than the avi and placed it in front of the avi. The hyperlink was set to show and then play the avi on mouse roll-over. The avi movie of the button was then set to hide itself after playing.

The problem I'm having is that the movie shows but doesn't play. Why not?
I've like tripple checked the properties on this. I even went in and said to make the hyperlink box disappear after unhiding the movie so as not to create an interference. No go.
    Any ideas?
I'm sure someone has a way to do a video rollover of a button, I just need one in the next 36hrs or so I can get this done with.
    Thanks in advance.

Re: roll overs w/ animation from video

Yeah, thanks adam. I got mine to work too. My problem was that the hyperlink boxes had to be bigger than the video for some reason. After I did that I managed to just play the avi on roll-over and using good compression (24fps cinepak on high) I was able to make the motion look pretty reasonable. So it can be done. There is some lag between the roll-overs playing sometimes. I assume this is somesort of caching issue with the video. All in all though...well it works well and just proves how great autoplay menu studio is in flexibility.

And on that note Adam...can I suggest that with microsoft announcing that flash is native in IE6 that the format is around to stay and that it would be great to be able to integrate flash directly into autoplay menu studio. I know like some of the codec issues others have brought up about having native mpeg and .wmv/.asf/quicktime support there are probably licensing issues involved, but I have to say this. Frankly, we use autoplay instead of Director, iShell, or Flash like 95% of the time cause its easy and dependable and I can teach to others without looking over my shoulder for bugs that can ruin everything in seconds. Flash support and a couple of more video options would put you guys in the a category unto yourselves. Add to that dynamic picture resizing in application (like powerpoint and frontpage offer), transform commands for major elements (motion, resizing, and some spinning perhaps?)and mac support and you guys will be able to write your own checks.
I love this tool...please understand that if you do even a fifth of what I've suggested above I'll be too pleased for words.

Hey all, I did get this to work really well. I was quite happy.

I first put my graphic layout in as an image. I then layed my avis that I made from the same photoshop composition (imported the photoshop file as composition into after effects and then decreased my composition size so that I just moved the entire composition around till what I needed to be animated was in the frame)over the the images of the buttons on the background. I hit preview several times to check how they matched up.

Then I created a hyperlink boxes that were slightly bigger than my avis. Before I put them over my videos though I clicked on my videos and set them as follows:

Then I created a hyperlink boxes that were slightly bigger than my avis. Before I put them over my videos though I clicked on my videos and set them as follows:

          On Video Finish:
          Hide Aviobject1
          Refresh Window

Then I placed the Video hyperlink boxes over the video. With that I then moved on to the properties for the hyperlink boxes. I set their properties as follows:

          On Mouse Over:
          Hide Aviobject2
          Hide Aviobject3
          Hide Aviobject4
          Show Aviobject1
          Refresh Window
          Play Aviobject1

          On Mouse Click:
          Target Whatever

Now what this does then is act as an animated roll over. And it works well.
The reason it hides the other videos is that sometimes the machine seems to get bogged down and leaves others showing even after teh hide object command on the video finish. However, the hiding of the other aviobjects before playing seems to really do the job. Looks like flash or something, very cool.

Now for the other buttons you would hide you would just flip the stuff so that all the other buttons were hidden and that one would be shown, played, etc. Don't forget to set the video properties too.

On last element that seemed to help for use was to set the image we put in the background as refresh on mouse over. This also seemed to help ther from being any lag or residual commands.

Hope this helps, I'll probably be putting a tutorial together on this in acrobat form for my production faccility here so if anyone out the wants a copy when its done I'll post a download of it on my website.

Hope this does some of you some good.
