  • A newbie question

    Ok Here goes!

After compiling the setup.exe for your install do you also have to copy the sounds and pictures you added to your install to say a cd or wherever you had the output go to.. I thought that all the files you used to make up the setup.exe was compiled into the setup.exe completely..

    Thanx

    Re: A newbie question

    Hi,
You do not have to worry about any other pictures that you add to your Menu, as Setup Factory builds a stand-alone executable. The only time you need to copy files onto the CD-ROM is if you are using the CD-ROM tab.

      Re: A newbie question

      Thank you Mark

The reason I asked is because I made a temp dir. and put the graphics and sounds I wanted into it, then proceeded to use the wizard and followed it to the letter then made my changes as far as the pics and sounds go.. Anyway after making the setup.exe file I put it into a zip file then deleted the temp dir. I used earlier.
after all that I then unzipped the new setup.exe file and ran it. only the background showed up and an error message came up and said it could not find the sound files ect.. That was why I was asking this question..

      P.S.
I am using I think is the trial version 5.0.1.2

      again I thank you

        Re: A newbie question

        Hi,
I am slightly confused, what sounds are you talking about? You cannot use sounds in Setup Factory, perhaps you mean AutoPlay? I just created a Setup.exe, included images, built the setup, deleted the images, and the Setup.exe worked fine. Please clarify your problem, and what you mean by sounds.

          Re: A newbie question

Ok Sorry to not completely say what I meant,
After doing the general design, then screen manager I go into the shell operations and thru execute I tell it to play multimedia sound ie:.wav, .mid, .mp3 ect either before install, after install or shutdown..

then after having setup do the output to a temp dir, I delete the pictures and sounds from that temp dir and try to run the setup.exe that was outputed it tells me that it cannot find d:\temps\temp4\blah.jpg ect..
I hope this clarifies my problem..
          Thanx for your patience Mark

            Re: A newbie question

            Hi,
The Play Multimedia, and other actions like it are designed to occur after your have run your installation. So basically you would install an AVI file onto the user's system, and then use a Play Multimedia action to start the movie from its installed location. So if you were using the actions in this manner then you would not have to include the files in your Setup. But if you wanted to, say, start a movie at the beginning of your install then you would have to have the AVI file somewhere accessible, like on the CD-ROM.
Basically for these actions to work properly your install has to be able to find the file in the path that you give it, so either you have installed the file to that path, or it is bundled with your Setup on a CD or some other medium.
