  • Windows98 install won't verify user information

I created an install to test today across windows nt, 2000, 95 and 98. The windows2000 install did exactly what I wanted it to do. However, when I tried to run the install on my windows 98 machine, after typing in the user information (Options set at name only) it returns an error message "Your response must be between 1 and 50 characters long" no matter what I type in there, it won't let me past that. It's not a feature I necessarily need to use, I'm just wondering what the problem might be.

    More information:

If I do a test build of an installation on my windows 98 machine and then run it, it runs the install no problem. It will be highly problematic for me to have to create different installs for each operating system, so any suggestions are welcome.

Re: Windows98 install won't verify user information

An end user has reported this problem (unsucsessfull validating of the user name), WS with Win98 SE. (No problem on two PCs I used for testing, both with SE, various updates).

Is there any solution to this problem (a rather serious problem in fact)?

Re: Windows98 install won't verify user information

        Hi,

On the User Information screen make sure you set the Minimum characters for any edit field that is not visible or enabled to zero.

This should solve any of the problems that you are having.

        mark.
