  • File in use

Our users regularly fail to read the on-screen instructions especially about closing any other Windows apps. As one of our files in an Explorer add-in, this means one of the files can't be updated properly. Is there any way to force this?

    Re: File in use

    Hi,

Sorry but there is no way to force a process to close using Setup Factory. But if you wrote a simple program to automatically close Explorer, you could use Setup Factory to launch it.

Or you could set all of your files to suppress the "in-use" message (on the Advanced Tab "suppress "in-use" notice" checkbox) then if the user had Explorer open all that would happen is the Installation would tell the user that they will have to reboot their system in order for the installation to full complete.

Basically any file that is in use during the installation will be overwritten on reboot.

    mark.

      mark.
If anybody's interested, I have written a program that will show a screen if Explorer or Outlook is running and conditionally shut it down. Requires a two step setup though. If anybody wants the source I'll send it to them. VC++ program 98/NT
