PROBLEM: Setup Starts and then Crashes

SUMMARY
This article explains a problem where an installation created with Setup Factory 5.0 or Visual Patch 1.0 will start and then crash right away without warning or error messages.
DISCUSSION
If you have a user who is reporting a problem where an installation routine starts, displays the Extracting Files dialog, and then automatically quits, this problem is most likely related to a corrupt or incompatible version of riched32.dll. These two products use the Microsft Rich Edit control to display text on the screens during the setup process.
