  • Unwanted Screens Appearing 6.0.0.1

I made some modifications in the wording of the very first screen which appears in the setup; the one that says (said) "Performing Setup Actions" (or words to that effect). I'll refer to this as the "Unwanted" screen.

I now have that same screen momentarily appearing and then disappearing in a couple of areas of the installation. I'll elaborate.

As the Installation progresses to the "Ready to Install" screen, the "Ready To Install" screen appears correctly. When the --Install-- button is clicked the "Unwanted" screen appears for about 1/2 second, then disappears and the "Installing Files" screen appears. After the files are installed, the "Unwanted" screen appears for another 1/2 second then disappears and the "Installation Complete" screen appears. When the Finished button is clicked, the "Unwanted" screen flashes for about 1/8 second and the Installation closes.

This is nothing major, but it does make the whole process look a little strange and distracting.

Added: This happening on two different machines, one with Win 98SE and one with Win XP-Home

    Any thoughts?

    Gary

Those screens come up when actions are being executed. These actions are added to your project from the Actions screen or one of the action tabs on the Screen properties screens.

      Brett,

To the best of my knowledge, there is no action calling for this screen to appear in any part of the setup except the very beginning.

I can find no reference it anywhere you mentioned.

      Thanks

Garhop, Brett means that the screen will appear whenever any actions are performed.

There is no way to know how long a given action is going to take, so a design decision was made to display a progress screen whenever actions are being performed, just in case.

We've discussed adding the ability to hide these progress screens dynamically at run time, so barring any unforeseen difficulties, you should (eventually ) see that feature in a future release.

You might want to generate a project report; it should include all of the actions that are in the project and might make it easier for you to find them.

Although it shouldn't be too hard to find them in the design environment, since you know when the actions are occurring. If I understood your first post correctly, just check for actions on the After tab of the Ready to Install screen, and on the Before Installing tab of the Actions dialog.

            Brett, Lorne,

Thank you for the explanation. I now understand what is happening and will be able to address it.

            Thanks again,

            Gary

I was hoping this would have been addressed in the latest release
I have a time limited install which uses an IF action on startup.
Seeing the screen flash up and dissapear is a bit of a a pain.

                Hi Chris,

I'm not exactly sure which issue you are referring to, do you mean the actions screens in Setup Factory? The actions screens come up to let the user know that some actions are being performed. This is especially useful if you have a long series of actions on a "Before Screen" or "After Screen" action tab. If the actions screens were not there, the user would simply see a blank screen.

There have been talks of implementing some method to prevent the actions screens from being displayed. We were thinking of having a certain variable you could set. This is not a definite plan as of yet, but it is something that we are looking into.

                mark.
