My version was also the latest before suf6 was available. The project was first created in one of the first versions of suf 5 and later on several times updated with newer versions of suf 5.
We still are not sure what is causing the problem, since we cannot replicate it on our side. Right now we are just trying to explore all of possible causes of this error.
I would suggest that you try re-creating your project in Setup Factory 6.0 and see if that solves the problem.
mark.
MSI Factory The Next Generation Intelligent Setup Builder
I had the same problems of a setup hanging at 'Registering Fonts' on Windows 98. When initially run, setup hung three times at registering fonts. But it is hard to replicate. Have tried again numerous times and can't get it to hang again. It was a very simple setup - used vb6 runtimes, a couple of vb .ocx's to Windows system directory but everything else just to application directory.
On another point while I'm here, any chance of making the transition between the various screens a bit smoother? If you run through a setup with a lot of screens quite quickly, I find the overall effect is a bit 'jumpy' - screens seem to flash. Probably not terribly noticeable to a user who uses the setup once, but it is when you're creating and testing setups!
It was created in SF6. I did have an extra screen (scrollable text) after installation which I thought might have been contibuting to problem but, again, it's hard to replicate - I tried with and without extra screen and it didn't hang.
One thing I did notice once, however, was that when I had to use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to end setup, 'Iexplore' also came up as 'not responding' i.e as well as the setup program. But can't see that this would be related.
Following are my observations:
1.First time it ever happened to me.
2.Its a pentinum 4 with intel 850 chipset, rambus ram
3.this happned when i changed the input locale.
4. Well it happened only once.
5. Hopefully it wont happen with my clients.
I have experienced a system hang once (a Win98 machine). The task manager reported TWO applications “Not responding”: The installer and Awrem32 (The Remote Control Module in Symantec pcAnywhere). When I closed Awrem32, the installer continued and completed its tasks (!!!). It was an ERROR that Awrem32 was running at this stage (I don’t know why).
I have not been able to recreate the situation. All repeated setups on this machine worked properly.
