I have seen the same "hang" at 'Registering Fonts'.

Running a setup built with v6.0.0.4

But I was able to get past this point.

My solution was something that causes problem with many other installations (not just SUF). It's to close Outlook. If you have been running Outlook and having the problem, it usually outlook not closed properly and still in the process list. After terminating it, all installations work without problems.

This is not going to be an easy thing to fix... I'm sure.

Past Friday I was giving support to a customer via NetMeeting and I recommended him to update his version of the program.

He downloaded the new version and for the first time I saw the installer hand at the "Registering Fonts" message.

We cut off communication and he restarted Windows. As soon as Windows came up, he was able to run the installer.

I just wish I could reproduce the problem at will.

I'm having the same problem... i had converted 2 projects from SF5 yesterday and they worked fine... I converted a 3rd project today, and it hung at "Registering Fonts"...

the other 2 projects didn't work also, so i guess it's a bug in the installer and has nothing to do with certain options in certain projects.

I rebooted and all installs worked fine. I'm using Windows 2000, and today someone reported the same problem with Windows XP Pro UK...

I haven't been able to recreate the problem... it just seems to happen from time to time I guess it's because of a conflict with something else that is running...

I have about 500 downloads / day, i hope it gets fixed soon because i really like SF and i don't want to use anything else...

Also, TrueUpdate does not work for me. I'm behind a proxy, i've had this problem before with other software whih uses auto-update. And yes, my settings are correct So please, also put the updates on the site like they used to.

what about an option to disable the fonts thing (as a temporary workaround)...

If that is the problem offcourse...

The problem seems to be that "something" (font?) is in use by another program... and the installer can't handle that...

Note: the setup probably isn't registering any fonts at that stage...it's what happens before or after that part of the setup that is likely failing.

The Outlook angle is interesting.

Hi all,

I can confirm that "Registering fonts" is displayed for some seconds while Outlook 98 is running (on NT4 in our case). If Outlook 98 is terminated (Exit and Logoff) - and the MAPI-Spooler "mapisp32.exe" has been terminated too - before a SUF-Setup is launched, the "Registering Fonts" message is not longer visible (may be for some Milliseconds).

A similar behaviour is known from nearly all InstallShield Setups that hang up to several minutes after the progress bar has reached 100%.

I also have this problem with W2K.
The installer hangs for 10-30 seconds with this message...
I wrote a small workaround (?) so that it will look "optimistic" while hanging.
On startup i assigned:

STAT_REG_FONTS = "Finalizing Setup. Please wait..."


Hope you can find a solution to this problem.

I have the same problems. Win2000 SF 6.0.0.3
Project was initally created in 6.0.0.3
And problem is gone after reboot.

Wath is STAT_REG_FONTS?
I have not found any variable with this name.
Where I can found any info about this variable?

Wath is STAT_REG_FONTS?

STAT_REG_FONTS is a message ID. There is a unique ID assigned to each "built-in" message in SF6. At run time, when SF6 wants to display a message, it looks up the message ID and displays the text that was assigned to it.

You can change the text assigned to any message ID in three ways:

- click on the General Design icon, select the Languages tab, double-click on the language you want to edit, and then double-click on the message you want to edit

- edit the appropriate language (.lng) file directly

- assign the text to the message ID using an Assign Value action (* for advanced users only *)

You should know that version 6.0.1.0 of Setup Factory has been released, Help -> Check For Update in order to get the latest version.

Hello,
I've just purchased Setup Factory 6.0.1.0 and it hangs during installation at step "Registering fonts" (on WinXP)
I try to install it just from start, right after rebooting Windows. And it works !!

I'm still testing SF6 6.0.1.0 and one station (XP) had the registering fonts hang.

I've sent them a build that will generate a log file and will forward it if they can replicate again.

Closing Outlook solved the problem for my XP tester.

I sent a build that should have written a log, and the build was successful the next time... go figger.

but clearly, something about Office 2002/XP is a prime suspect.

Version 6.0.1.1 has been uploaded to our website, in this version we have fixed the "registering fonts" lockup problem. Get the update under Help -> Check For Update,
