  • SF6 and XP

I've noticed that sometimes when installing to XP, it hangs on what appears to be one of the last steps. Its labeled 'Registering Fonts'. You have to Ctrl-Alt-Del out of it. I don't have any fonts to register. I even have it off in the settings not to register fonts. I dont have any actions that would do it. This project was imported from SF5. I have received calls from my customers describing this same behavior when they run my setup. Any ideas?

The install will always display the actions dialog message "Registering Fonts" whether you are installing fonts or not, so that part is normal.

What full version number of Setup Factory 6.0 was your install created with? You can find this information if you go to HELP->ABOUT SETUP FACTORY. The current version is 6.0.0.4.

What full version number was your Setup Factory 5.0 project that you converted?

There has been one confirmed problem with converted project's actions, I can't say whether it would cause this or not, athough the safe thing to do would be to create your install from scratch in Setup Factory 6.0 and not use a converted project.

You say that this happens "sometimes". Are there any other applications running at that point?

      Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXXXX

Our program consists of two setups. I'll use one for program files, etc. and the other for data files. When I was experiencing the problem, I was inside my development environment running code and depending on certain flags it would run the data setup (no prompts) to create a new data directory. So I actually just attributed it to the fact that I had other things running and was hounding the system. Today I received calls from customers running the program files setup. They had nothing else running (XP Pro). P.S. I love the program. Used SF5 for over a year. Have 150 customers who run the setups every couple of months or so and have never experienced any problems.

Just a note, please don't post serial numbers on the user's forum. Thanks

I believe you forgot to answer my question about the full version or build number you are using. Are you using the most recent build of Setup Factory 6.0?
