Well first I have purchased SF 6.0 and I am pleased with SF6 for the most part but there is missing functionality that is causing me some problems. A little background:
I have some legacy DOS/Win16 apps that require adding the install path to the existing windows PATH environment variable. In WinNT/2000/XP this should be done by using the registry and in Win98/ME you should add to the PATH statement in the Autoexec.bat file - that’s one problem and tweaking this registry or PATH entry without exactly the right information can be shall we say, dangerous - experimenting here is not wise.
The other problem is that the PATH value should be checked to make sure you do not accidentally add your path info to the PATH statement multiple times - that’s problem number two.
This was a trivial task with other installers I have used but I am having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to do this with SF6. Also, I was amazed to find out that SF6 does not include a defined default variable for the windows PATH environment - gee wiz there are still legacy apps that need to be deployed - not everything is Win32 and in its own path. Does anyone have a good example (*.sf6 example project) that can help me out? I sure wish there were more example *.sf6 projects I could look at to learn how to use this tool better. Need more examples (and help).
Anyone willing to assist?
Thanks,
Terry
