Setup factory terminating upon launching

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone has any ideas on why this would happen.

1) After chaging (adding/removing) files from the source directory where setup factory project looks for files.
2) Launch the project it looks for files / changes and then quits.

It does not happen often but frequent enough to notice. I had to keep frequent backup of project files. I am using 6.0.1.2

I can't say that I have ever experienced that behavior before and I'm having a hard time coming up with a cause.

What OS are you currently using?
Where is the source directory for your files?
Something you may want to try is unchecking any files that are set to be registered (ADVANCED tab of each file's properties dialog). Maybe it's going wrong when it's scanning a file?
You may also want to check the integrity of all of the source files. Maybe one has become corrupt which is causing the problem.

You may even want to uninstall and reinstall the software.

Are all of your files local, or located on a network? If they are networked, perhaps there's connection problems occasionally that cause it to bomb out.

I'm just throwing stuff out there. Anyone else have any ideas or have experienced this before?

Windows Xp Pro SP1

Where is the source directory for your files?
Local. The project file resides in the same drive as the source files.

Something you may want to try is unchecking any files that are set to be registered (ADVANCED tab of each file's properties dialog). Maybe it's going wrong when it's scanning a file?
Hrmm i do have that auto register dll thing on, but do you think that would cause the problem ? Does setup factory project provide something like a dump / log file which can be looked at for troubleshooting purposes ?

No, there isn't any sort of error log that is generated. The autoregister option was just something to try. It was a long shot, however my thought was that maybe it encountered something strange in a file or a registry entry when looking at the file to be registered.

A corrupt file somewhere in the file list is more of a likely culpit, but hard to say. Check the Date column in the file list. Do any of your files display a strange date, for example July 15, 1952? This can be a sign that a file has a corrupt file header.

Are any of the files that are in your file list in use during your work with the project file? Maybe some conflict occurred due to a case such as that, where it couldn't be accessed at a certain point in time. Make copies of any files you are including in your install so you can ensure none of those files are in use during your development of the install.

As I say, I'm just throwing things out there due to the fact that we are in unchartered waters with this one.

The problem is the project does not even show me that. All it does is shows me the splash screen then it shows the initial reading / adding of files then it quits.

I am not sure if the cause could be from different project sharing the same source ?

But i dont run these project conrurrently anyway so I doubt it would actually affect the others , what do you think ?

If you send me your project file, I'll take a look to see if I can see anything that may be causing the problem. You can send it to [email protected]. I could then maybe try removing half the files from your list to see if it still occurs for you, seeing if it is being caused by a certain file(s).

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software? That's certainly worth a try if you haven't.

Are you opening the project file by double clicking it, or by opening the software and then opening the project file from there? If you haven't tried that, give it a try and see if the same occurs.

Are you able to create a new project file without problems?

> I would normally double click on the project itself. Haven't tried opening the software then the project though. Will try then if it happens again.
