  • why AMS is very slow ????

i noticed that every educational project i tried to create using AMS is very slow and i don't know why ??. of course the project contains videos , images, buttons ..etc but even high graphic video games run faster than AMS . i mean when i press a button to jump to another page which contain only a picture and a video of about 1.5 mg ,it takes a while to do this however any adobe flash file runs faster and contains more than that . so is there any way to make my project runs faster ???? (i am not able to upload my project because it is over 200 mg).

I always use a list box or button to load and play large videos. I often make a very short video that loads by default a title for instance.

I find that AMS applications do tend to take a while starting up especially when loading from a CD but once again I make sure my first page is simple and doesn't spend time loading large files that have got to be displayed straightaway.

I expect to see my application loaded and ready within about 12-15 seconds at the most. I expect page jumps to be pretty well instant.

do you have security software running in the background (antivirus/firewall)? which operating system are you using? i experienced massive delays in other indigorose products too and those were always related to other software interfering. you can use process monitor to see what happens during those delays that you mentioned.

first thank u for your help . second no i don't have (antivirus/firewall) running in the background . and slowing problem occurs in different computers not only my computer .

unless you deactivated your integrated windows security features you will still have processes in the background that constantly check your files. try deactivating those and see if that helps.

you could upload your project to a one-click-hoster such as megaupload. it's pretty much impossible to nail the problem otherwise without guessing

you also didn't follow my advice to use process monitor to see what's going on during those delays.

The type of video file/codec may have something to do with the delay, some perform initialization better than others but 1.5MB is by no means a big video file.

If the project is run from CD, then the write speed when the CD is burnt can affect the CD read. If you write at a very high speed the CD player (especially on other PCs) may have difficulty reading it - this is a technical hardware issue to do with the device's azimuth tolerance (essentially, how well it can 'see' the pips burnt into the surface of the disc). Therefore, it is best to write at a rather slowish speed (x4), which yields a better defined burn and thus results in better read with the widest range of CD players.

Hi! AMS is fast, I think. You mean: "Why AMS is very slow in my computer(s)????"

Anyway, 200 mb? Please, try: in "Build & Publish target" option, select "Hard drive folder".

Maybe your application is "coping" or even "unzipping" the video to the temp folder on each running.

I think that is not the case, but is really impossible not to imagine such things:

Anti-virus are avoided on slow computers. You are not using an anti-virus because it would leave your computer even slower. If you are not using an anti-virus, your computer may be infected. Your computer may be slow because it is infected by a virus.

hi , thank u for your reply . my computer is not infected because i have kaspersky antivirus in another computer and i update it everyday and use it for scanning the other computer almost every 2 or 3 days .and i use bitdefender and nod32 online scanners too. i removed antivirus from this computer because i want it to run faster . and AMS project is slow even when i save it as hard disk folder .

can you post the apz file?
what speed is your computer? how much RAM? what CPU? and what is the access speed of your hD?

Apparently some 'earlier' encoders would output mpg1 that could take longer to initialize than 'recent' encoders do. So, the software you are using to record/edit the movie may have something to do with the issue. To test for this, cut AMS out of the equation and view the movies in a movie player - do they take long to load and run?

                          Tips on speeding up projects

Hi IdeasVacuum and other knowledgeable people, apologies for hijacking this thread, but this is my first post as a new AMS user and I had similar concerns about playback speed.
I won't post my problems on this thread but Ideas Vacuum, you seem to be extremely knowledgable about these issues. Any links or resources that give a good run down/list of steps to take or things to be aware of to keep things running quick and smooth in AMS authored projects? (For me this would include hybrid DVD authored AMS project concerns too)

Not sure if I should start a new thread on this with my own questions or keep it all in this thread....
Perhaps if there is no resource out there you knowledgable people mike like to contribute to a sticky thread? There seems to be no real coverage of these issues in the user manual.

Perhaps best to start your own thread for your own question (1 thread = 1 question seems best to me). There are actually many AMS experts who generously spend a lot of their time answering Forum questions. I'm not an expert at all, an AMS newbie in fact, but I have used a few programming languages in my time.

Hi! Again, I think that is not the case, (is not about a virus or slow computer).
In my post, I wrote a possibility about your project is "coping" or even "unzipping" the video to the temp folder on each running. So please, try it:
in "Build & Publish target" option, just select "Hard drive folder".

(ps: of course, this is just a possibility)
