Any news on the bug fix for decompression errors?

I have been experiencing decompression errors for about six months. I have fiddled with the compression settings ad nauseum and eventually upgraded to version 9 in the hope that they would be solved. If anything, they seem to be WORSE. Mark, you said that you were working on a bug fix on the 30/3/2011. I am using Version 9.0.2.0. Is there a later version?

    Hello,

it should not matter what kind of data you are compressing - sounds, images or executables... If you have a set of files that cannot be compressed/decompressed correctly, we would like to have a look at it. Again, please post a support ticket with your project file or a minimal version of it so we can see the exact settings you used, and a download location of the files we can use to reproduce the issue.

As for not being able to sort by file extension - Setup Factory does certainly offer this possibility. Go to View > Columns, and make sure that the option Extension is selected. You can move the column up, if you wish.

Installing the latest version (9.0.2) did not resolve this issue. Again, I believe it's because there are a number of different types of data within this dataset and the ones that are causing the issue are the .tif files, which are already compressed. Issue is still not resolved.

Unable to Update to latest Version 9.0.2 to fix error Decompression Error 2029

First of all, we've just bought 5 licenses of setup factory 9. It is telling us we only have 146 days left of that license and also will not upgrade to 9.0.2. Can you please contact me at the following email address so we can further discuss this away from the thread. Greatly appreciated!

I believe I've at least figured this out somewhat. Within my large datasets are .tif files which are already compressed. I'm having to select them and click Properties, Advanced tab and de-select "Compress". Also, a nice addition to this software would be the ability to sort by File Type so that I don't have to search the entire 200k files for all the .tif files. If you could come up with some type of resolution where it omits .tif files, that would be great and perhaps resolve this for alot of people. Thank you,

Most files are .dgn files. I'm using the same compression that's the default for Setup Factory 8 which is 8 MB dictionary size and 128 word size and CPU threads = 1. I'm able to run this setup in Setup Factory 8, but with multiple Memory Errors along the way. The "Out of Memory" errors do not change the end result of my multiple .exe files and it installs correctly. It only takes more time using Setup Factory 8 and needs to be babysat to get rid of the "Out of Memory" errors. I've tried this setup on a Windows XP machine as well and due the the large capacity of the dataset (10 GB), on a machine with less memory, the error is different and is "XML File Saved Error". With that particular error, you cannot only "NOT" save your project, but sometimes the .exe you get in the end will result in a failed installation created. I'm trying different compression sizes and wondering if this isn't the issue or if it's a memory issue with the program itself. My Win7 system has 8 GB RAM. Please advise as this is a huge issue for me due to the fact that these datasets I work with are getting larger all the time. I also have another one that's 12 GB with .tif files which are already compressed...same error (Decompression Error 2029). With that dataset I'm actually going to try "NO Compression" and see if that helps it. However, again, I need this fixed with all of my other datasets that do need compression. Also, another note, not all of my large project files from Setup Factory 8 will convert to Setup Factory 9. It gives me an error about the project file not being available. I'm assuming again this has to do with the actual size of the .suf8 files.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have been working in the code and I think that I may have found a and fixed the problem with relation to compression and segmented installations. We now need to review the changes and if everything works out we will release a new build as soon as possible.

    mark.

the lzma compression options (lzma2, high etc) are very memory dependent -- iow -- have as much ram available as possible during your builds if you are trying to maximize compression.
FWIW -- I asked if there could be a "test for my maximum options" button -- on my laptop; I can get only so much compression; on my desktop; with similar cpu & ram, I can get higher compression. It seems to be very picky.
So can you explain how my team have used other setup applications and not had as many issues with LZMA2 as we have had with Setup Factory and the amazing thing is all the others are free?

Even when used with lower compression rates of LZMA2 it still is more likely to fail than with other applications which LZMA2?

Seems a bit of a cop out to me from Indigo Rose to say oh its going to happen all the time if you ask me.

So no fix for this issue yet. Looks like I will have to create another job ticket and hope the response is better than maybe i prefer to use LZMA rather than LZMA2 so the issue does not occur with regard decompression error 2029!
Strange how a freeware setup program does not have this problem using LZMA2 with the same files!

Yes, I'm using UPX compress runtime.
No, I'm not doing any code signing.
No, I'm not using a different icon, only the default.

    Some questions:
    1. Are you compressing the runtime with UPX? (Edit > Preferences > Build)
    2. Are you signing the code? (Publish > Settings > Code Signing)
    3. Are you using a custom icon? (Publish > Settings > Resources)
