  • Dead product?

I am wonderinng if there are any plans for a v10, or if v9 is the final version of SF. No major update for almost 2 years now, no major version beta to have a look at. Running out of ideas? Extending my support plan would make much more fun with a major update release in sight.

I'm wondering about the same thing

I don't want to be screwed by not extending the plan as well.

No official reply for almost a week... This is no good, and surely no motivation at all to extend our service plans.

Could someone of the officials here post at least a few thoughts about this?

Is this product dead, or about to die?
      Is v10 planned?
If so, at what stage is the development?
Is there a beta or will there be one?

      Please!

I am currently running the next minor update of Setup Factory 9.1, featuring the latest corrections in the product, so I can tell you that it is definitely still being worked on. I am always filing issues and suggestions when I find room for improvements, but at this time, I don't see why a new major version would be justified now. Setup Factory 9 supports Windows 8 just fine, and should there be a tweak required to address something in the upcoming Windows 8.1, it most likely won't need a major modification. I am not clairvoyant, so I can't tell you if there will be a version 10 some day. I think that this depends on if there is actually need for it, and if it makes sense commercially to invest the required resources.

There is no problem in allowing your subscription to lapse, renewing it only when you wish to get access to a new minor or major release - your product won't stop working without having active maintenance. There are many customers who send support requests regularly, but even without maintenance, you can always post questions here - a quick look into these forums shows you that I help frequently and attempt to address many issues.

I am not an employee, and this is my opinion, not an official statement of Indigo Rose.

Does Darryl have any insight on this topic?

Ulrich I like your post. There are some interesting items in the post though.

#1 There is a beta version. How do we get the beta for testing?
#2 At the Current time IR has no plans to upgrade to a major version...
#3 If you are not staff of IR why by your Avitar the line reads Indigo Rose staff Member?

            1. This internal build was not made publicly available. It is not exactly a beta version, but a release candidate, used to check if issues I unearthed got fixed - hopefully without breaking something else.
            2. To my knowledge, not at this time. Do you think that there is a need for it? If you think that a major new feature is missing, please post it in the Suggestion forum.
            3. I am not located in Canada, and I don't participate in the business meetings and company decisions. I work for IR as an independent contractor. Hopefully this explains it.

                I posted my suggestions here:

Maybe others can add their thoughts to the list, too.

Currently I will not extend my support plan if I do not see anything happening with this product, except for bug fix releases, which should IMHO be free to everybody, no matter if a support plan has expired, or not.

                  Hey Folks,

I think Ulrich covered this pretty well, but yes, we are currently working on a Windows 8.1 update for Setup Factory. It's been in development for the past month or so, and should be released in the next few weeks - before Windows 8.1 hits GA release in any case. It's surprising how much work had to go into it just to meet Windows 8.1 compatibility requirements... Likewise, Windows 8.1 release are coming for TrueUpdate, Visual Patch and AutoPlay Media Studio.

                  Best,
                  Colin
