  • Setup Application has stopped responding on Windows 7

    Howdy,

I'm wondering if anybody else has seen this. I have an installer that fails on Windows 7 when installing files to the System Folder. It happens on both 32bit and 64bit systems. It doesn't seem to happen on XP systems. This is installing a COM objects to the System Folder and when it fails the file ends up as zero bytes. I have all the files flagged as "Failsafe Copy", "Supress In-Use", "Shared", and "Never Remove".

It does not happen all the time and sometimes you can run the install, it fails, delete the zero byte file, run the install again and it works. Sometimes it won't work. Reboot's don't seem to solve the problem and neither does "Run As Administrator".

    Thanks

    dbl

The 1st thing I'd check is any A/V scanners you have --disable them.

Yeah I did that ... doesn't seem to make a difference. I can run the install and it will fail. When it does there is some zero byte tmp file in the Windows folder. I delete that and then can run it again and it will complete ... other times I can run it 3 or 4 times in a row and it won't complete.

For an Test, have you disabled the Data Execution Prevention in Windows 7?
        DEP
