  • irsetup.exe is getting crashed on Server 2012 Core HyperV

Running Installer on Free Hyper-V Server 2012
When running an installer created with Setup Factory 9.2 on the Hyper-V 2012, an error is encountered:

    ---------------------------
    irsetup.exe - Application Error
    ---------------------------
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).
    ---------------------------

This same installer runs fine on Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2.

Is there any way around this issue or if not, will installations on Hyper-V 2012 be possible in any future release?

    Please Help...!

    Thanks.

You may want to make sure that the 32-bit environment (WoW64) is present and working properly. If this core server does not have support for 32-bit applications and it can't be installed, then you need to build a 64-bit installer (and of course your application must have also been built for the x64 platform). If other 32-bit applications are working, then check if the Visual C++ 2010 x86 runtime is installed.

Sorry, due to some problem was unable to update on this thread. So pinged you in private IM.
The other 32 bit applications are getting installed. Even tried to install the C++ 2010 x86 but still getting the same error.

Also when trying to build setup as 64 bit platform getting an build error as :

        -------------------------

        Build failed - 1 Error(s), 0 Warning(s)

        -----------------------------------------------

Previously getting an error as :

        ---------------------------

        irsetup.exe - System Error

        ---------------------------

The program can't start because oledlg.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

        ---------------------------

Then I copied the oledlg.dll from one system to core system and then again ran the setup then got the as as mentioned earlier :

        ---------------------------

        irsetup.exe - Application Error

        ---------------------------

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).

        ---------------------------

        Please Help...!

        ...

        Thanks'

From the documentation at Microsoft, it is clear that Hyper-V Server 2012 is a platform for hosting licensed virtual machines, and that it does not have the full features of a Windows Server computing environment.
“Hyper-V Server is a dedicated stand-alone product that contains the hypervisor, Windows Server driver model, virtualization capabilities, and supporting components such as failover clustering, but does not contain the robust set of features and roles as the Windows Server operating system.”
It is my understanding that your setup should be installed into a client VM hosted on this platform, but not into the Hyper-V Server platform itself. Attempting to copy individual files which weren't provided by Microsoft for the Hyper-V platform most like won't solve this issue. Reading the docs at Microsoft, it is clear that Hyper-V Server 2012 is not a free alternative for the Windows 2012 Standard or Datacenter Server editions (where you can install applications), instead it is a platform for running other operation systems on. You may be able to install a few programs, but Setup Factory is clearly not one of them.
